THIS ABILITY
In January 2005, BACI and the National Film Board of Canada
(NFB) embarked on what became a two-year joint media
project called “This
Ability”. The project used the
power of media to communicate the contributions and gifts of
individuals of all ages within the BACI community.
We were very excited to work with the NFB and for
individuals to have the opportunity to share their stories,
activities, or experiences with the broader community.
Participants also had the opportunity to take a turn
behind the camera and be part of the design and roll-out of the
media making process.
A series of 5 films were developed from the
footage gathered.

Through generous funding from the United Way Community
Innovation Grant, Chris Tanner facilitated the communication
between BACI and the NFB. Lorna Boschman, an
experienced and creative director, was hired to inform and guide
the journey of creating.
We hope that this media process has assisted, and will continue to
assist, in creating a greater awareness of
the contributions of individuals with varying levels of ability.
