ADULT & YOUTH SERVICES
Residential Services
A home is a place where one finds comfort, refuge and renewal.
It is a place of belonging. It is also an extension of the one who
lives there, a place where one’s personal tastes and
preferences are visible. Creating homes for adults and youths with
disabilities can sometimes be challenging because of the diverse
interests, influences and demands that bear upon such efforts.
Nevertheless, within our capacity to do so, we are steadfastly
committed to providing the means for making a genuine
“home” to those who receive our residential
services.
Supportive Living Options
Creating a home requires balancing the varied interests,
influences and demands of all the individuals living there. BACI
endeavours to support all individuals in choosing and creating
homes that satisfy their personal needs and tastes -- a place they
can call their own .
BACI operates 13 staffed homes, providing support to two to five
individuals per home. Typically, these homes are funded
through MCFD and are licensed under the Community Care Facilities
Act. Currently, 48 individuals are receiving support in
our residential homes.
Family Care Homes
Within the family care model, there are several different
options. An individual can: live in a family home,
having a private bedroom but sharing a common living space; have
their own private suite in a family home, or; live in their own
apartment, with a family living next to them who provides the
support they need to increase their independent living skills. The
option chosen depends on what the individual wants and needs from
their service. Currently, 13 individuals are supported in family
care homes.
Subsidized Housing Options
Through partnership with other organizations, BACI is able
to offer both fully subsidized and integrated housing options in
the Burnaby area. The most recent addition was the
donation of 4 apartments at the Buchanan Towers, which provided the
opportunity for 4 individuals to move into their own
homes. A new tenant’s family described the
move as akin to “winning the
lottery”. BACI hopes to continue to develop
these community partnerships and be able to offer further options
in the future. Current options are:
Filby court: occupancy
12
Stride Place: occupancy 123
Orchard Heights: occupancy
10
Buchanan Towers: occupancy 4

Respite Services
The goal of respite services is to provide additional
support, rest and renewal to the primary caregivers while BACI
provides a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful experience for the
individual. Respite can be provided in the individual’s
own home, in a family home within our Life Sharing Network, or in a
staffed home. Currently, 14 individuals are receiving our respite
services.
An adult man with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other health
and behavioural challenges, lives in an apartment with his aging
father. The two men have such a strong bond, that even though
they’re no longer capable of living together in a way
that ensures each other’s health and safety, they will
not separate. BACI respects this relationship and recognizes that
significant supports are required in order for it to be sustained.
In-home respite services are now provided seven days per week. With
supports for all household chores, shopping, and cooking, they are
doing very well and their lives have changed remarkably for the
better.
